My Story

I don’t play a piano technician on TV but I am one in real life. My name is David Mayfield and I have been working on pianos for about a hundred years. Okay, more like forty, time flies while you’re having fun.

I have torn apart countless pianos and even put some of them back together. You think I’m kidding. Some pianos just aren’t worth rebuilding and need to go to the piano rest home in the sky. Occasionally I have converted an old piano into some other useful piece of furniture. If you are into this sort of thing, you can take a peek at my unique custom piano furniture. I might be available for custom work if you ask nicely.

Seriously, I have rebuilt pianos of all shapes and sizes, refinished too many, moved more than my share, played some, bought and sold, rented, installed player piano systems … what am I forgetting … you get the idea. I have respect more than I can genuinely express for the many fine professionals in this business, technicians included, to whom I bow in humility. My skills have seen me through this career but there is always more to learn.

On the other hand, I have acquired what I believe to be a decent amount of knowledge and experience which may prove of some value to others, which I am happy to share. So if you find anything on this site helpful or just plain enjoyable, well enjoy! And tell your friends.

Oh, and if you really like what you see, I am happy to accept any donations to help maintain this site. Just hit that PayPal button in the upper right hand sidebar (no PayPal account required).

Thanks for stopping by. Say hello anytime.
